Adelaide has some of Australia's most reactive clay soils. Under AS 2870, suburbs are classified by soil reactivity — Class A (stable coastal sands) through to Class H2 (highly reactive clay in the northern and southern corridors). A concrete contractor who applies the same specification everywhere in Adelaide will leave you with a cracked slab on a Class H1 site within 3–5 years.
